Tupelo, Mississippi - The following statements are from Mayor Reed and Chief Carleton regarding the letter received today on Deputy Chief Robert Hall’s certification request.

Chief Tony Carleton :

“We received the letter from the Board on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training in reference to Deputy Chief Robert Hall. The letter stated that the board reviewed the application that Tupelo Police Department sent requesting his professional certificate, and it was denied. We are entitled to a hearing and we have full intentions of following through with this process.”

Mayor Jack Reed, Jr. :

“This is a process. We will take the next step because our city is a safer place with Robert Hall on our team.”

I think everyone is entitled to a mistake and deserve a second chance....futhermore he hasn't done any more than the fat a** Harold Ray Presley did while he was serving as Sheriff! If you want to state the facts than Jim Johnson Shouldn't be still in the way he let jail deputys beat up on helpless Immates! I think that you all need to just stop be Racist about the situation and let it take its course.By the way I am an honest christian White Man that has been around for years and have seen the racism around this town! It Sad that some of you people still stuck in the 60's!

What is this?! Last night, WTVA reported the NEWS that the Minimum Standards Board would not be hearing an appeal concerning Robert at this weeks meeting - it will be November before they fool with it again....not a word of that NEWS in todays paper.....is anyone surprised?

I will ask the question again: how much money has been spent on this and how much is the mayor willing to spend to have his way? Any answers?

Where are the Mothers Against Drunk Driving in this mess? I thought they were there to help see that things like this didn't happen. I know that they know about this but they have been suspiciously absent. The one that lost the most is the child that got run over. He was awarded a settlement in a court proceeding but the last time he was in the paper it said he hadn't received compensation. If junior wants to throw our tax money around how about throwing some of it towards the victim instead of continuing to throw it into keeping robert in an over-paid position like he is doing....

MADD, WHERE ARE YOU?!?!?!

Would it be possible to have an accounting of how much money has been squandered on this mess?

Robert made a bad decision but thought he covered himself by alledgedly speaking with the chief that was in office. That person seemed not to remeber those conversations and deflected heat away from himself....

The ensuing ethics investigation and lawsuit from Cliff cost alot of money....

More money spent in wasted man hours defending this mess....

It seems that the current city administration is determined to have Robert back no matter who, or how many citizens, voice their displeasure with this re-hire....

Honest Police Officers are being denied a raise in pay that they desperately need and deserve while thousands of dollars are being thrown into this mess - the city probably can't afford to give them a raise considering how much has been spent on rehiring and trying to keep Robert....

The most vocal supporters of this action have now resorted to threats that there will be problems if Robert is not retained in this position yet they never answered the question of how would they have felt if it had been one of their family members that were injured in the incident that started all of this....

The MINIMUM Board of Standards (Note: MINIMUM) reviewed the application and denied it. That should be the end of it. Period.

Yet, this administration continues to ignore common sense and will trhow MORE money down the drain to appeal a decision that was made by an entire board not just one arrogant individual who seems determined to have his way with money that is not his (IT IS TAX MONEY) to get what he wants! This is absolutely the most ridiculous situation that one man could have created....

Will it simply be appeal after appeal after appeal until someone finally gives the answer he wishes? Where will it end and at what cost?

Is there anyone that can appeal to the mayors office and convince this administration that they are totally wrong?

I have the answer to that but it would be inflammatory to bring daddy into it so I will end by simply saying that this is disgusting, wrong, expensive, and the entire mess could be eneded if Robert simply walked away.

Now there seems to be a question of "the plea bargain" that reduced Roberts felony charges to misdemeanors. What were the conditions outlined in that agreement?

It really doesn't matter - the bottom line is this entire mess was generated thru extreme arrogance and is continuing to be fed by that same disinterest in what is best for the city, it's citizens, and the Police Department.

To the fine Officers at the Department that deserve better than this: please keep your heads up and continue to do the job in the manner you know you should. This joke cannot continue forever and you can be the best you can be in spite of the idiocy that this has become.

I salute you and send a raspberry to the ones who created this situation!!

I say again, Robert needs to resign and go back to Toyota. I doubt if I would stay employed by a city if it's common knowledge that the citizens do not want me there. This is ridiculous. Sounds like Reed needs him on the team so he can run the team. As for being entitled to a hearing, I still believe Robert is entitled not the city and that the expense (and it will be big) of that hearing should be paid for by Robert Hall, not my tax dollars. I too believe Reed wants the hearing because he believes no one should ever tell him NO.

Reeds statement shows he doesn't think much of the rest of the TPD. A police dept is a team. one person does not make a team. one person does not make a city any safer. That is about the silliest thing i have ever heard and that is all he can come up with. also, this directly effects Hall and he has yet to make a statement....scared much?

Of course Reed will continue pursuing this. To do otherwise would be to admit that he was wrong to rehire Hall in the first place.

And don't you know that Jack Jr. is never wrong?!!

He's a narcissistic egomaniacal idiot!

And if the citizens of Tupelo are stupid enough to re-elect him, they get what they deserve.

In addition to creating racial strife, I wonder if he will have bankrupted the city by the time he comes up for re-election.

He's just like Obama, only on the local level.

I think what Reed meant to say is that his career as mayor is safer when he is able to ensure the "black vote".

Well, it is no wonder people are running into city hall with guns and bibles with statements like this. Reed, you are pandering to the black vote and nothing more.

Why in the hell would you want a criminal on the police force?

Is this saying Hall is a threat to the City if he is not ?
