The Tupelo Police Department has applied for Deputy Chief Robert Hall's certification, according to Tupelo Police Chief Tony Carleton.

The request now goes to the state Board on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training.

Hall was hired in March, three years after having resigned from that position upon pleading guilty to a misdemeanor for releasing a hit-and-run suspect. He lost his certification when he left the job, and the Police Department must apply to the state Board on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training to have it reinstated.

The board typically denies recertification if an officer has a criminal record, but the city can appeal it at that point.

In June, Carleton told the Daily Journal that Hall didn’t need the certification to hold his position, which is administrative in nature. The certification grants officers arrest powers.

City leaders recently urged Carleton to have Hall certified.

Really, Larry? Anonymity? You seem to be the king of anonymity. So don't go calling people cowards and liars and insult their manhood, or lack of (so you think) all the while you use your own anonymous "handle", you HYPOCRITE! You, sir, are the pot calling the kettle black. Take that as you may. You are the very type of person that my Mama taught me to look out for, a two-faced fool. Or maybe you are Kenneth Mayfield. There's a thought.

Peace Out.

I'd sure like to see the crowd y'all got together for the march on city hall. You buncha cowards and liars don't have the balls to leave the anonymity of your keyboards to make a public stand on this without your sheets on. That was what was wrong with the TPD then, and it is what is wrong with it now. Mayor Reed stopped short of getting rid of all the corrupt cops and is now paying the price.

Board of Minimum Standards Indeed

Peace Out

They can pull out anything they wish. The difference is one is trying to get certification back while the others have certification and have not been convicted of anything that I know of.

Regardless, certification is a political tool. Doesn't do anything for "integrity" as I believe the term previously used here. I know a bunch of crooks that can run, do pushups, drive fast and shoot guns.

If Robert Hall and the NAACP demand that information on all similar situations of recent years be produced who will be answering questions then? It might get interesting. Personally, I would enjoy seeing the muckraking. Let's not wait. Let the muckraking begin,

This whole argument is stupid.

If Hall can articulate his circumstances to the board and get his certification back then he needs to be left alone and go back work. If he doesn't, the mayor needs to find him another job doing something other than police work.

I'm not sure how long this will take. Can probably find out. I can't see the board giving it to him. I think the appeal has to go thru chancery judge. I'm just saying if he wants to appeal that's his right but we, the taxpayers, shouldn't have to pay for it. If Robert wants to fight this battle that's his choice. Not mine or any other Tupelo citizen. The appeal process is not a battle I choose to fight.

This makes me sick. FYI. Robert wasn't respected by fellow officers back in the day and he's sure not respected now. I hate it for Carleton. I think he has the good of the city at heart but has been pushed into a corner. Robert needs to resign and move on. And, correct me if I'm wrong (I'm sure LarryDickman will), if he is denied his certification I think HE has to appeal, not the city. How much of my money does the city intend to spend on this junk? I don't want to pay for his attorney for the appeal. I don't want to pay for any of this mess

If Hall was worth his salt (which is somewhat doubtful) he would resign his PD position based solely upon the racial issues which his re-employment have caused. Although the Chief and Mayor made a bad error of judgment in allowing this felon to return to law enforcement in the city, Hall could right that wrong by quietly bowing out. Tupelo doesn't need racial strife, and that will exist as long as Hall remains employed by TPD.

In the post below I was referring to Robert Hall - in the unfunded position.

If there is a march on city hall at least they have security there now........

I will never forget the mayor lecturing the city council (when some raised questions concerning the appointment of Carleton as chief) that HE had the power to choose department heads. I don't think he remembered to also remind them that the Board controls the money - until he is certified (IF that even happens) - simply make his position (deputy chief, commissioner, whatever) an unfunded one...he can stay there - with no pay or benefits until this matter is resolved....

I see a protest in front of the City Hall, anytime soon to request for the removal of Mr. Hall.

We Tupeloians have to fight for our rights as citizens and what we request the City Hall and Mayor to do. We can't just sit on our butts..won't help any. We have the power to fire Mr. Reed and Mr. Hall if they are stubbornly unmovable.

I think the people of Tupelo needs to get up a march on City Hall.. Mr Mayor Reed needs to be shown Hall should not on the TPD in any position.. The people of Tupelo should have there voice heard on hall if you ask me.. I think someone should get on a march on City Hall with signs everthing show Mr Reed he is asking for something the people do not want!!

Integrity is the one thing that no one can take from you, it can only be given away.

Robert Hall gave his away years ago.

He's not fit to lead anyone and certainly not fit to wear a badge or occupy any position of authority or public trust.

Dickman, you should get your facts straight first.

The kid on North Gloster left the scene, before anyone arrived, and turned himself in the next day. The other lady you mention was flown to the hospital in a helicopter, kind of hard to arrest her then huh.

Your ignorance of the facts goes a long way in proving that you are just trying to instigate racial tension, perpetuating the problem.

LarryDickman- you need to get your facts right!!!The young white man you previously talked about who's dad owns a well established eatery in Tupelo and has strong ties to the TPD and he was not drunk. He had just left the place where I was and had not even had an alcholic beverage!!!! The person he hit however was so drunk he couldn't even walk down the side of the road without stumbling into traffic right in front of him!!! His only crime was he got scared and left the scene. YOU NEED TO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU START RUNNING YOUR MOUTH ABOUT THINGS YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That goose and gander issue is in here somewhere. The Tupelo Police don't want to push the incident with Hall too far. Doing so will force the city to deal with several similar situations regarding other officers and "prominent white people," folks. Neither the city, nor the Police, and certainly not the "prominent white families" want to see these similar stories drug out from under the rug for all of US people to read about here. We will let this one get swept under the rug or the rug gets picked up. Get it?

@LarryDickman: I have NEVER in ANY of my posts brought up the topic of race. The measure of a man has nothing to do with color or creed and Robert Hall fails to measure up, period.

This is about the misconduct of a police officer sworn to uphold the law who violated that oath and thus the terms of his prior certification and now wants to be re-certified.

Robert Hall is a felon who now wants to be re-certified as a law enforcement officer.

If he is re-certified, then the validity of the certification is brought into serious question.

He would not be re-certified in the states in which I once held certifications and he shouldn't be in this state either.
