Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt says he has a zero-tolerance contract with Jeremiah Masoli.

Nutt spoke about the former Oregon quarterback for the first time Friday as the Rebels reported for training camp. Masoli will join the team as a walk-on and can play this season if the NCAA approves a waiver request.

Nutt says he wasn't convinced he could trust Masoli until he brought him to campus last weekend and looked him in the eye. Masoli was thought to be a Heisman Trophy candidate before Oregon coach Chip Kelly kicked him off the team after his second brush with the law in six months.

The Rebels became interested in Masoli after losing backup quarterback Raymond Cotton, who transferred to South Alabama just two weeks before preseason practice began. That left Nutt thin at quarterback and more willing to gamble that Masoli can be trusted to stay out of trouble.

sawmill it sure does get easy to rationalize when it affects our pocketbooks...LOL..but I agree with the gist of your statement. If he wins with Masoli, he'll get a contract extension and and a raise...

Oh please! Nutt doesn't give a crap about this guy personally. He is just a tool to him. And remember, Oregon forgave him once and look what it got them. At some point you have to stop being weak and put your foot down.

Truth is, we should all be like Nutt and look for the good in people and not let their past curse them for life.

Ah, ya'll lay off.

They go 9-2 & a bowl appearance, everybody in Oxford will kiss both Nutt's & Masoli's tails and swear they smell like roses.

And...if it meant keeping a job that amounted to maybe $400 K per year, you and I might do the same sleazy thing. It's easy to be moral and judgmental when you don't have a dog in the race...like the ugly old maid.

Hoity toidy, you all!

with that easy schedule, they would be 5-0 to start the season with a walkon at qb.

Masoli has about as much class as Houston Nutt. The coach will load the team with thugs and morons while the win-loss record goes in the dumpster. He's done it before and is doing it again.
