IUKA - Meridian Furniture Manufacturing, which got its start earlier last year, is no longer in business.

The upholstered furniture manufacturer, which occupied a 120,000-square-foot building in Iuka owned by Tishomingo County, employed about 35 people at its plant.

Tishomingo County Development Foundation Executive Director Gary Matthews said the company was unable to secure operating capital in order to stay open.

Meridian's departure leaves two furniture manufacturers in the county, Max Home and Jamco. Together, they employ about 190.

Well that didn't last long, but it's no secret that in the current economic climate, people aren't buying a whole lot of furniture....or much else for that matter.
