Instead, the students will return to West Corinth and East Corinth elementary schools until construction is complete.
A letter to the community with details about the opening of school is expected to be circulated soon, said school board President Ann Walker.
Although no move-in date has been announced for the new elementary school, which has encountered construction delays, fifth- and sixth-grade students from South Corinth Elementary will move into renovated space at the former Corinth Junior High with seventh- and eighth-graders to form Corinth Middle School.
The approximately $14 million elementary school had a contract completion date of July 23. It was funded by a $12 million bond issue approved in 2008.
The 128,000-square-foot facility includes about 60 classrooms, as well as computer labs, a cafeteria and a gymnasium.
The school is being built on a 40-acre site on Droke Road between South Harper Road and South Parkway.
