Verona man charged in assault on officers

TUPELO - A Verona man was charged with two counts of assaulting police officers on Monday.

Rico M. Lyons, 20, was charged after an incident in jail. According to a news release from the Lee County Sheriff's Department, inmate Lyons attacked the officers while they were on duty and escorting him inside the facility.

After the attack, Lyons was held without incident, and both officers were treated by the North Mississippi Medical Center and released.

Lyons is being held for probation violation, armed robbery and felony taking of a vehicle.

There is NO EXCUSE for this criminal to assault the officers.

I only hope he gets a long sentence for this attack.

Why are you reporting assualt on an officer. Read the news about Lee county beating prisoners and nothing is done to the deputys that do this. Crooked, that is the word. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander.

Sounds like the dude needed taking to the hospital (mental side). Attacking police inside their own house with all the brothers, sisters, cousins, momas and daddy there. Smart move.

The people watching over criminals may be getting punished more than the criminals. People committing crimes while locked up should be punished severely.
