The Monroe County Board of Supervisors approved the grant application process at its June 25 meeting. The grant funds will come through the USDA Rural Development program for $67,531.
Emergency 911 Director Bunky Goza said currently signals are coming from towers in Booneville or Birmingham. With the new equipment, a transmitter will be located on a tower on Coontail Road.
"This grant will allow us to do some upgrades and put the new transmitter on our tower," Goza said.
