The southpaw, who is a finalist for the Dick Howser Trophy presented to the top collegiate baseball player in the nation, adds the ABCA honor to a growing list of awards that include All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
The Howser Trophy will be presented on Friday, July 2, in Lubbock, Texas, as a part of the College Baseball Foundation's Hall of Fame inductions and awards ceremony.
This season, Pomeranz was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Year by the league's coaches as he led the conference in strikeouts (139), earned run average (2.24) and opposing batting average (.195). He posted a 9-2 record on the year, helping Ole Miss advance to an eighth consecutive NCAA Regional.
His 139 strikeouts put him second on the single-season list for strikeouts - giving him two of the top five spots after posting 124 strikeouts as a sophomore - and pushed him to the top of the career strikeout list with 344. He also is in the top 10 in career wins (21) and career starts (43).
He was drafted with the fifth overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians to become the highest draft pick in Ole Miss baseball history. He is also a semifinalist for the College Baseball Foundation's National Pitcher of the Year award and a finalist for USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award.
The Golden Spikes Award will be presented to the winner at a luncheon as a part of the MLB All-Star game festivities at 1:30 p.m. CDT on July 13 in Anaheim, Calif. The five finalists include, Pomeranz, Chris Duffy (Central Florida), Yasmani Grandal (Miami, FL), Bryce Harper (Southern Nevada) and Chris Sale (Florida Gulf Coast University).
