Bond set for Shannon shooting suspect

SHANNON – Bond for Cary Newcomb was set at $20,000 for an aggravated assault charge.

Newcomb, 21, turned himself in to Lee County Sheriff’s deputies Wednesday night after being suspected of shooting a 45-year-old man with a shotgun earlier in the day. Newcomb was in the Lee County jail Thursday.

Sheriff Jim Johnson said the victim was driving down County Road 295 at around noon Wednesday when pellets from a shotgun ricocheted off of his struck, striking him in the face.

The man was taken to the North Mississippi Medical Center and treated for minor injuries and released.
