NEW ALBANY - Babies now have more room to grow at Baptist Memorial Hospital Union County.

The hospital recently finished a $200,000 renovation of its nursery, expanding to 3,000 square feet, giving staff a better view and more space to work.

The nursery dates to 1992; the hospital updated its labor, delivery and recovery suites in 2008. With the New Albany hospital averaging 100 new arrivals each month, they needed more elbow room for the babies.

"We are excited to bring the larger space and new equipment to the new mothers and infants of our community," said James Huffman, CEO and administrator of Baptist Union County. "We will be able to treat patients even more efficiently in a family friendly environment."

The nursery renovation also includes a room for family bonding, so that families can have a private area for getting to know a baby when the infant is not able to leave the nursery, said Lisa Bailey, chief nursing officer.
