Barbour says the state's beaches are clean and the fishing areas remain open.
He says Mississippi has been blessed because "we haven't had a milk jug full of oil" to make landfall from the underwater well that ruptured about 50 miles south of Louisiana on April 20.
Barbour spoke Thursday at a news conference aired live on WLOX-TV.
The Republican said he would not criticize the way Democratic President Barack Obama's administration has responded to the spill. Barbour also said he's confident oil company BP will pay all recovery expenses.
