CORINTH — The city of Corinth has signed a contract to provide storm alerts to local residents by telephone, text message or e-mail.

The city signed the contract this past week with Blackboard Connect. Alcorn County offers a similar service through Global Connect.

The city will pay $5,518 through the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30 for the contract and about $13,000 for the following full year.

Officials tell the Daily Corinthian that the system will use published phone numbers — cell phones and unlisted numbers are excluded — and residents will be able to add cell phone numbers and e-mail addresses if they choose, as well as select which methods of delivery they prefer.

The system can send notifications to residents of only a particular street, neighborhood or citywide.
