RIDGELAND - Smithville coach Jeremy Duke knows how much a one game lead in a three-game series means.

Not much.

His Seminoles (27-6) battled back from a Game 1 loss against West Union to win the Class 1A North title last week.

Now Smithville is a win away from the its first fast-pitch title after a 10-0 victory against Bogue Chitto (20-9) Friday evening in Game 1 of the Class 1A series at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland.

It was the school's first championship series victory.

"It's going to be a different game tomorrow," Smithville coach Jeremy Duke said. "Even though we're up one game, we were down one last week. We've got to finish the job."

Today's game 2 begins at 10 a.m .

Junior pitcher Kami Roberts (17-4) gave up a first inning single to Mattie Avants, and that was all.

Smithville may have taken advantage of five errors in the one-hitter, but it also took advantage of opportunities against Lady Bobcats starter Toy Smith (10-5).

Roberts and Kyla Ford had RBI singles in the first.

In the second, Whitney Fears, Kelsi Watson and Ford had RBI singles and Roberts singled in two more of her four runs batted in.

She added the fourth on a fifth inning single. Lane Kennedy scored on a passed ball.

"Kami shut them down," Duke said. "She went through their lineup twice in five innings, just all-around great job."

Enterprise-Clarke 5, Hatley 0

Hatley pitcher Lesley Hudson (18-6) allowed only six hits in the Class 2A opener, but the team managed only two hits.

The Lady Tigers (22-10) had an opportunity to score first when Katy Duling led off the third inning with a double, but she was stranded at third base thanks to two strikeouts from Enterprise pitcher Hayleigh Harper (20-3).

In the bottom of the third, Harper drove in two runs on a two-out hit for a 2-0 lead. Hatley had five errors to help Enterprise-Clarke (28-4).

"You've got to make a team like that earn every run and we gave them quite a few," Hatley coach Chris George said. "We've got to bounce back tomorrow."
