TUPELO – Former Police Capt. Cliff Hardy will received $400,000 in a settlement with the city of Tupelo, officials on both sides of the case confirmed Monday.

Hardy had sued the city in 2009, claiming he was forced out of his job after speaking out against its treatment of Robert Hall. Hall had been demoted for his role in freeing an intoxicated hit-and-run suspect in 2006.

Hall this year returned to his job as the department's assistant chief.

Tupelo Mayor Jack Reed Jr. released a statement on the settlement announcement.

"All parties will benefit by settling this case and putting it behind us," Reed said."While the result of an appeal to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals would have been uncertain, the advantages to our community by putting this to rest are certain. The City of Tupelo is committed to moving forward together as a progressive community that we can all be proud to call home.”

This case and many of the other lawsuits that have been popping up are a sign. It would seem that the city is ran by a bunch of over heated mongoloids, that can't figure out how to run a corrupt city. Looking at all the money that has been wasted and all the lives they have harmed, run across the news like a bad soap opera. They won't rehire Cliff Hardy because he did his job of trying to straighten this mess. From where I stand it's like watching two monkeys hump a football. If they want to actually fix their problems they should rehire him and fix this PD. Robert Hall or not this town is filled with jackassery.

Lawsuit seeking damages and reinstatement as relief was within the jurisdiction of the Judge. Judge chose money only.

I have not seen any agreement or Judicial order that will not allow the new Chief and Dep Chief to hire this guy back. Hall is back and Hardy claimed to be dismissed because he backed Hall.

So I guess you might guess what may happen next !!!

how about the mayor hiring the girl from wtva that was not out of contract? when is that lawsuit going to make the headlines?? that could be costly to someone.

Daphne Holcomb? Here- $200,000

Cliff Hardy? Here- $400,000

Terry Anderson? Here- (use imagination)

Annexation Attempt Here- (use imagination)

I wonder what will come out next? The suspense is killing me.

Oh yeah, Robert Hall is still Deputy Chief - certification or not. haha

i dont understand....why did the judge rule not to reinstate hardy but hall could be?? doesn't make sense to me. can someone give me the logic behind that? dont get me wrong...i dont think he should get his job back i just wonder why a judge doesn't think so either.
