The Lafayette County native and former Fox News political analyst told a Daily Journal editorial board on Thursday she’s proud of it all.
“I’m a lady true to my word and I’m a fighter, and I’m going to fight for” the people of the north Mississippi, said McGlowan, wearing a black dress and long pearl necklace. “The true people I run into say (my Washington, D.C., experience) is a plus.”
McGlowan is vying for the Republican nomination against state Sen. Alan Nunnelee, R-Tupelo, and former Eupora Mayor Henry Ross. The three face off in the GOP primary June 1.
Although each claims to support the party’s core conservative values, McGlowan says she’s best qualified to exemplify those principles on Capitol Hill.
She called Nunnelee a flip-flopper whose voting record betrays him, and she termed Ross “a nice guy” but questioned his ability to shake things up in Congress. McGlowan said she’s never wavered in her informed positions and has the clout to accomplish her goals if elected.
Those goals: balance the national budget; implement tax cuts for small businesses; create jobs in north Mississippi; reduce earmarks; eliminate the federal Departments of Education and Energy and distribute their budgets to the states; and send all illegal immigrants back to their home countries.
“You have to have someone who will work with people on both sides,” McGlowan said. “As a political strategist and a government affairs person, I’ve had to work with Democrats and Republicans to get things through, and I’ve never compromised my values in doing so.”
McGlowan came under fire earlier this year for saying she won’t support Nunnelee if he wins the primary. Despite criticism – mostly from within the GOP – the candidate stuck to her opinion this week. Why support someone you don’t believe in, she asked.
The 40-year-old also defended remarks about gun control she’d made before entering the race. McGlowan told Paul Gallo on Super Talk Mississippi last year that she’d favor proposed legislation requiring people to register their guns. She later admitted ignorance of that legislation and said she simply was playing devil’s advocate.
Yet the remarks have dogged her campaign since the start, prompting hate mail and smear campaigns. McGlowan told the Daily Journal the interview was an unfortunate episode in her life and that she’s a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment.
“With your one-issue voters, there still might be a challenge,” she said. “But those who are politically astute know what it was. Unfortunately this issue has turned into something nasty.”
Hard-ball Mississippi politics has surprised the former beauty queen, but McGlowan said it also has bolstered her desire to keep fighting for what she believes even if it’s unpopular.
When challenged about her plan to curb earmarks – many of which bring millions of dollars into the region – McGlowan said it’s the right thing to do.
“Certain Republicans and Democrats might be very happy with the lucrative things that have been brought here,” she said. “But when you are elected to Congress, you represent not only Mississippi, but the nation; that money is coming from somewhere.”
And on her stance that all immigrants go home, McGlowan also was unapologetic.
“Deport them all,” she said. “I know it’s cold. I know it’s sad. But we cannot break the law. I’m not for amnesty.”

You will NEVER be able to justify Mexican nationals being here illegally no matter HOW you try to spin it. It IS illegal and it allows employers to shirk labor laws...THESE laws, unenforced by the federal government, has forced states like Arizona to take this action.
Be sure to read to the end, you'll be surprised ...
You have only the rights you are willing to fight for!
Mexicans here and in Mexico are rather upset by the recent enactment of stricter anti-illegal alien laws by Arizona 's governor.
In light of the following, that position demonstrates the typical double standard used by race-hustlers and assorted something-for-nothings. Read on, and read it to the end.

Too strict?......
The above laws are the current immigration laws of MEXICO !!!
These sound fine to me, NOW, how can we get these laws to be America 's immigration laws??
I can assure you that I am neither of those either. I mean it was me who was trying to let you know that you LOOK like those things when you post as you do. So, I'm obviously sophisticated enough to know "netiquette".
If you have things to say, you need to present them in such a way that people will actually read what you are posting in order to get your point across, right? I mean, if your postings look stupid by the manner in which they are formatted, then it decreases the chance that people are actually going to take the time read them. Thus, you're unable to get your point across, no matter how valid it may be.
I was trying to help you not look stupid. Please forgive me for trying to help.
Now as to the content of your postings, you're missing the point.
It's not about "heart" or anything else, it's about the law.
Let me try to make it as simple as I can.
No one is arguing with you when it comes to LEGAL immigrants.
But when someone comes here ILLEGALLY they are breaking the law and are thus, by definition, CRIMINALS.
As I said before, we are a county of immigrants and I welcome those who come here LEGALLY and obey our laws.
So, what we're really saying in the most simple way that I can say it:
LEGAL IMMIGRANTS = GOOD
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS = CRIMINALS = BAD
SEEM RUDE OR SCREAMING. For your information
I am not an idiot nor am I a "redneck" seems
to me that you might fit that bill. I my self
am not worried about amnesty for my family
but I do have a heart for the other people
out there that could use a helping hand. what-
ever happened to THE PROMISED LAND. Like I said
there are people here who would not work in
" A Pie Factory", let alone the jobs that 90%
of these people. Hmmm we wouldn't have any
fruits or vegetables probably not much meat
either. My self I would not work in the field
nor in a packing house nor in somebodys yard
would you?
If you know anything about internet etiquette or "netiguette" you'd know that ALL CAPS is considered screaming and rude.
Not only is it rude, but it makes your posts hard to read and you look like an idiot. Perhaps you are an idiot, but let the content of your comments display that fact rather than your typing in ALL CAPS.
So, do yourself and us a favor and stop posting in all CAPS. It just makes you look like "some redneck with a computer" who doesn't know anything about the Internet.
As for the actual contents of your comments, if you'd calm down just a little, you'd be able to see that no one is saying anything about those immigrants who come here legally.
I lived in Texas for over 20 years, and trust me, I know MANY Hispanic people and have MANY Hispanic friends, (probably more than anyone else posting here) and I'm glad to have all of them here in our country. Hispanics are generally very hard working people with strong family values and a great culture and I welcome any of them who want to come here and do so LEGALLY.
This topic is about ILLEGAL immigrants, not those who abide by our laws and go through the proper legal immigration process.
Everyone who comes here ILLEGALLY, regardless of where they come from or the color of their skin are by definition criminals for they have violated the laws of our country.
I love the Hispanic people and their culture and they bring a LOT to our country and I welcome them to come here and am glad to have them here when they do so LEGALLY!
OF OUR FELLOW AMERICANS IN THE TOMATO FIELDS
ORANGE GROVES AND PACKING HOUSES. THE PEOPLE
HERE WOULD RATHER GET FOOD STAMPS AND WELFARE
THAN TO WORK LIKE WE WORK. YOU DON'T HAVE A
CLUE AS TO WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. MY
FAMILY HAS BEEN IN TUPELO MANY YEARS AND I
DON,T KNOW OF ANY OF THEM THAT HAVE BEEN IN
STREET GANGS OR DRUG DEALING OR ANY THING OF THAT NATURE. UOU NEED TO GET ALL THE FACTS
SRAIGHT BEFORE YOU START POINTING AN ACCUSING
FINGER AT ANY ONE.
PREDJUDICIAL ATTITUDE, ONLY A FEW IGNORANT
PEOPLE WOULD VOTE FOR HER I IMAGINE. WHERE
WOULD THIS COUNTRY BE IF THERE HAD BEEN NO
AMSNESTY? AS FAR AS TAXES GO REGARDLESS TO WHAT
A FEW IGNORANT PEOPLE THINK, HISPANICS DO
PAY THEIR TAXES ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THEY DO NOT
RECEIVE TAX REFUNDS. I KNOW I AM MARRIED TO
A MEXICAN AND THANK GOD HE IS LEGAL NOW, BECAUSE
THE MCGLOWANS OF THE WORLD MAY PREVENT A LOT
OF THESE PEOPLE FROM BECOMING SO.
People around here love to vote for the politician that they think can bring the most federal money into our region without thinking about where that money comes from. Federal money is not "free money", the federal government has no money without the taxes that WE all pay.
And the elimination of the departments of education and energy would save a lot of money that is pretty much wasted now.
It's been understood for decades that the education of our children is a state responsibility and the elimination of the Dept of Education and the distribution of the money saved by eliminating that needless entity would be good for the cash strapped states.
As far as the Department of Energy, what have they done for us in the past 30 years? What have they accomplished in that time? We still don't have a comprehensive energy policy and we're using more foreign oil than ever before! That department is worthless.
As for the immigration issue, I'm all for LEGAL immigration. We're a nation of immigrants. So, I welcome those who seek to legally immigrate into our country. But as for illegal aliens, if they're not in our country lawfully, then they need to be deported. Period.
And illegal aliens should not be granted "amnesty" or allowed to "jump the line" in the path to citizenship over those who have come here legally and are pursuing their citizenship within the law.
