TUPELO - The Tupelo Public School District has hired Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates to conduct the national search for the next principal at Tupelo High School.

Based in Glensview, Ill., the educational search firm will charge the district $10,000, plus an additional $2,500 for such costs as candidate travel and advertising expenses. The firm also offers a guarantee that if the principal selected by the district does not stay for more than one year, it will conduct a new search free.

The Tupelo School Board selected the firm at a specially called meeting on Wednesday. It is the same firm the district used last year in its search for a new superintendent.

The district hopes to hire the new principal by June 1.

i just dont see spending the money. for that amount of money an extra assistant could be hired or by the time you add the undisclosed travel money to be added later, you could add a teacher.

personally....priorities are not straight.

Quite the opposite. We need to find someone who isn't from the area who knows how a good school ought to be run and has the skills to do it. Getting this new superintendent was a huge leap forward, now we need the same for the high school. And yes, I am saying I don't think anyone in the district is qualified. Let's go out and find the best so we can become better. Things in the school system have slipped here over the past 10 or 15 years and poor leadership is to blame. We deserve better.

another thought....you want to look for someone to be the pricipal of the great Tupelo High School, dont you think finding someone with ties to the community would be better. Someone that already lives close or someone that is from here. Someone that loves the school for more than a paycheck and/or stepping stone to another job.

Are you kidding me?? what a waste! Education funds are getting cut faster then ever before and Tupelo is going to spend money looking to give someone a job?? Come on!! promote from within and move on!

The same firm that hired our current superintendent - wonderful news!?!

And does this not still indicate that no currently in the Tupelo system is qualified?

well then we need to get rid of the HR department if they are capable of hiring someone.......waste of $10k and should piss everyone off. Thought we were poor? Yeah right, this proves that we dont spend money the right way. What a joke.
