TUPELO - At least one man was in custody at press time for the NEMS Daily Journal newspaper Tuesday night after an alleged armed robbery in west Tupelo.

About 9 p.m., an armed robbery was reported at the Papa Johns on West Main Street. According to Lee County E911, the alleged robber did not get any money from the store, but snagged a woman's purse.

About four men were later seen running through the residential area surrounding Papa Johns, including one holding a black handgun that matched the weapon described in the alleged robbery.

An E911 supervisor said there was a report of a shot fired in the Bogan Street area, and no injuries had been reported.

Police will release more information today.
