Max Holman, Tupelo High School’s three-time state Gatorade Player of the Year in cross country, announced Sunday night that he has committed to Ole Miss.

“I think Ole Miss is the best overall fit for me,” Holman said. “It is close to home and I’ve been a Rebel fan pretty much my whole life.”

A senior, Holman is expected to sign a national letter of intent this week with the Rebels to run cross country and track.

Holman has won three consecutive cross country state titles and three state championships on the track – two in the 3,200 meters and one in the 1,600 meters. He won both the 1,600 and 3,200 at last season’s state meet in Pearl.

His winning time of 16 minutes, 9 seconds led the Golden Wave boys to their ninth straight state championship in cross country at Mississippi College’s Choctaw Trails.

In the state track and field meet, he won the 3,200 in 9 minutes, 40.77 seconds and covered the 1,600 in winning time of 4:28.21.

Holman started his running career following his fifth grade year when he participated in and finished the Gum Tree 10K footrace in Tupelo.
