JACKSON — A Senate committee has killed a bill that would've revised the dates for deer hunting seasons in Mississippi.

The Senate Wildlife and Fisheries Committee met Tuesday and chose not to vote on the bill. That killed it because Tuesday is the deadline for House and Senate committees to act on bills that had already passed the opposite chamber.

The bill proposed moving primitive weapons hunting to Nov. 1; adding more gun hunting, extending it through Jan. 31; and removing up to three weeks of exclusivity previously enjoyed by bow hunters.

The bill is House Bill 1282.

Thank you committee for stopping the MDWFP and their insane ideas. The destruction of primitive hunting seasons in Missippi. They have done enough already allowing single fire rifles as primitive. Larry Castle should be ashamed and resign.

If the Daily Journal wants to do a great job, they should contact the Chairman of this committee and find out why they sat on this bill, instead of letting the whole Senate have a vote. Sounds like someone was protecting the interests of his/her own friends......
