Thad Cochran of Oxford said the summit pointed out the “many unresolved problems” in the plans supported by President Obama and House and Senate Democrats.
“I hope today’s long discussion brings us back to the table for a fresh start on this issue, with a focus on controlling costs and improving health care delivery.”
Roger Wicker of Tupelo, in a statement issued during the summit, “It is not too late to start this process over and begin working on a bipartisan, step-by-step approach” toward less expensive health care that holds down taxes and limits government’s role.

to be done, but I hear so much crap out of Washington, I have to divide by a windage factor.
I watched the healthcare summit also on CSPAN, and I was not given a good reason that this process should "start over".
What I heard from the democratic leadership was simply "they were going to use the Baucus Bill which passed bi-partisan in committee". This bill was fiscally responsible and CBO scoring had this bill saving the federal government billions in the next 10 years and trillions in the next 20 years.
The democratic leadership was going to use "reconcilation" to remove the Ben Nelson and Landau super-pork added to get them to vote for the bill.
Where the president wanted an "abortion neutral" bill - the republican fought for amendments that would not allow healthcare insurance dollar to be spent on women obtaining abortions - and the amendment added will remain.
Moderate republicans and moderate democrat win with this bill. Liberal did not get what they wanted, and the extremely partisan republicans do not have a means to obstruct.
Starting over is only a means to obstruct - and is a disservice to the american people.
DogBone,
The government already spends 60% of all the money spent on healthcare. While you are obtusely wondering how we are going to "pay for it" - others are more concerned how we can continue to pay for it.
Do the math - 1/6 of our economy (GDP) is healthcare - and 60% of that cost is paid for by government. What percentage of GDP is government funded healthcare - and if premuim continue to rise (39% increase by Wellpoint this year), what is the increased cost to the government?
Until we the people wake up and realize that the government is not the answer to the healthcare or for that matter virtually any other problem but is in fact the VERY CAUSE of the problem, we are doomed to plod down the existing path to financial ruin and totalitarianism. Be careful what you wish for.
There are 1000.people dieing a day just because they don't have insurance that a shame for a country like ours we help ever one else why can't we do the same for our people,of course the insurance companys doesn't want this done they want to make all the money that they can they sale insurance for profit they don't care abouth the people they care abouth profits they make.
I have followed this all the way through and i see the republicans put in amments in then vote no on their on amments.what sense does that make.
The bottom line is we as americans we can't afford not to pass this bill.
WEwatch c-span two alot so we know whats going on don't let thease senators fool you that make big buck keep us mad.WE NEED THIS BILL PASSED WITH A PUBLIC OPITION AND WE NEED IT NOW.
