JACKSON — The Mississippi House has voted to cut some legislative expenses for the coming budget year.

The House voted Wednesday to ban state payment for lawmakers' out-of-state travel during the year that begins July 1. It was not immediately clear how much the state would save.

A separate bill passed by the Senate last week would trim lawmakers' in-session pay by $1,000 for 2011 only.

The House plan moves to the Senate for more debate in the next few weeks, and the Senate plan awaits debate in House committees.

Some lawmakers say they should cut their own expenses while revenues are tight and most state programs are losing money.

The bills are House Bill 1615 and Senate Bill 2506.

What about Haley's travel?

He's the one traveling around campaigning on our dime.
