The Calhoun City fans who managed to make it through the door were not disappointed in their team’s 82-62 victory.
Taborris Coffey scored a game-high 21 points, including 8 of Calhoun City’s 10 points in the final two minutes of the first half to give the Wildcats a 40-25 lead at the break.
“Taborris played like a monster tonight,” Calhoun City head coach Daren Coffey said about his 6-foot-4, 275 lb center. “You can tell he really wanted it tonight and I think the rest of his guys fed off of his energy.”
Dartavian Primer took over where Coffey left off, scoring 8 points in the third quarter before senior Charlie Easley scored 9 points in the final frame.
Dominque Cook had 19 points, and Easley added 17 for City. Jarvin Tillman led Bruce with 12 points.
Calhoun City will take on West Lowndes in the championship game at 8:30 p.m. Bruce plays East Webster at 5:30 p.m. in the consolation round.
Also in Division 2-2A action:
- The Calhoun City Lady Wildcats advance to the championship game behind 11 points from Miesha Armstrong in a 48-38 win over the Hatley Lady Tigers.
Maleah Miller led Hatley with 13 points.
Demetrius Malone scored 27 to lead West Lowndes to a 76-56 victory over East Webster to advance to the championship round.
Ledrick Patterson led East Webster with 20 points.
- The Bruce girls cruised to a 80-44 victory over West Lowndes behind 22 points from Zantarria Edwards and 18 by Lesley Wayne.
Tyesha Knott and Chadyilla Selvie paced West Lowndes with 12 points each.
Bruce will square off against county-rival Calhoun City at 7:00 p.m. for the Region 2-2A girls championship. West Lowndes and Hatley girls will tip at 4:00 p.m. in the consolation game.
