JACKSON – Attorney General Jim Hood announced today a settlement between the state and drug maker Eli Lilly for $18.5 million.

The state had sued the company over the drug Zyprexa, which was designed to treat severe psychotic disorders but was being used for minor depression and later found to cause diabetes.

Hood sued the company to recover money that the state had paid through Medicaid and the state health plan, plus penalties.

The money already has been deposited in the state’s general fund.
