Mayor Howard Boozer said the city had applied for $100,000 to put a new heating and air conditioning system in the old armory. The city was awarded $75,000 for the project. Mayor Boozer said the city will fund the remainder of the cost to get the system installed.
This grant comes on the heels of a preservation grant of $132,700 the city was awarded for a new roof at the old armory.
City officials plan to completely renovate the old armory located on 9th Street South which was built in 1937 as a Works Progress Administration project. It will be used as a civic center once complete.
