TUPELO – The Mississippi Tax Commission today signed and entered an order allowing Tupelo to sell wine and liquor on Sunday.

It goes into effect immediately, meaning people will be able to purchase the alcoholic beverages this Sunday. Hours are set from 1-10 p.m.

City leaders had made the request to the Tax Commission in December, just months after having passed a local ordinance allowing beer and light wine sales from 1-10 p.m. Sundays.

Commissioners signed the order around 2 p.m.

Cool...I guess Mayor Reed can then take credit for bringing "more than a mouthful" Mondays to the area. Now THAT is improving the quality and health of Tupelo...maybe now Sammy's Go Go Lounge will set up here too...

I hear Hooters and Buffalo Wild Wings have plans to come to Tupelo now that beer and liquor can be sold on Sunday. At least there will be some tax revenue generated now that beer and alcohol can be sold legally on Sunday. The cash deals on Sunday at the country stores didn't generate any tax revenue.

I think I'll just quit drinking ! Tupelo you have just made it too easy for me. I may even loose my title of "town drunk" because of you. It used to be a challenge to stock up,watch the clock for closing time and remember what day it was. Tupelo you are no fun anymore !

The wine and liquor will only be sold in restaurants, right?
