STARKVILLE – For the second time in less than three weeks, the Mississippi State men’s basketball team is back on the left coast.

The Bulldogs (11-2) will put their eight-game winning streak on the line tonight against San Diego (6-8). Tipoff at the Jenny Craig Pavilion is slated for 6 p.m. The game will not be televised.

MSU was in California on Dec. 12 for a 72-54 win against UCLA in the Wooden Classic. The Bulldogs are 5-6 in gam,es played in the Golden State under Rick Stansbury.

Last year, San Diego escaped Starkville with a 64-61 win. But the Toreros have lost seven of their last nine this season.

On Monday night, MSU dismantled Mississippi Valley State 73-45, extending to 12 games the Bulldogs streak of holding opponents under 70 points.

Four MSU players have double-digit scoring averages. Junior guard Ravern Johnson leads the way with his 15.4 clip, followed by senior All-SEC standout Jarvis Varnado (13.4), Barry Stewart (12.0) and Dee Bost (10.5). Varnado is also second in the league in rebounding (10.3) and leads the nation in blocked shots (69).
