TUPELO – The U.S. Postal Service will hold a public meeting Jan. 13 to discuss its proposal to move some mail processing operations from Tupelo to Memphis.

The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Link Centre, 1800 W. Main St.

A summary of the proposal and presentation materials will be made available to the public on usps.com before the meeting.

The Postal Service has been studying the possible consolidation as a way to cut costs and improve efficiency.

The Postal Workers are all over-paid! From the Carriers up through Supervisors and Management. Cut everyones pay in half, From the Top Down and bring it back to reality. The mail will still be delivered even if Thomas Street is moved to Memphis.

USPS is a quasi government agency. NO TAXPAYER money goes to run the postal service.

Then where would we get our mail, anti-state? What about those grandparents who are not technology oriented and rely on writing letters to dear ones and what about bills? Not all companies have online bill payment fully set up yet.

Better idea: abolish the entire postal service and quit wasting taxpayer money on such an inefficient and unnecessary gov't service. Bet that won't be discussed at the "public hearing."

As bad as the USPS may have performed in the past, just like GM and Chrysler, we have to let them adjust operations to make the most of the money they spend. Believe you me, those people working at Thomas Street could have cared less about your service last year, all they worried about was if they got the hours they wanted. Now everyone is sooo service oriented. Makes me sick. The people that work out there know they'll have to got to work when they move operations and not hide out on the clock like they have for years.

I'm curious to hear the inane ramblings of the citizens of Tupelo against the possible consolidation. Count me in!

Well, isn't that clever. Hold the meeting on a church night, when tons of people will have other obligations.

Heck, why didn't they just schedule it for Sunday morning at 11 o'clock?
