Jerry and Melinda Brock filed the suit in August on behalf of their daughter, Anna, alleging that she had suffered negligence, gross negligence and a violation of her bodily integrity. They said an Alcorn Central Middle School typing teacher had grabbed their daughter and left bruises on her forearms and caused other injuries.
The lawsuit was settled on Dec. 16, the day trial was set to begin.
The terms of the settlement could not be disclosed, Jerry Brock said, but he and his family were satisfied with the outcome.
"This has been going on for three years, and we're just glad to see an end to it," he said. "Reaching a settlement sort of vindicated us in what we were trying to do."
Anna Brock transferred from the Alcorn County School District to the Corinth School District after assault charges they filed against a teacher on Anna's behalf were dismissed in early 2008 in Lee County Circuit Court.
The Brocks originally filed a complaint with the Alcorn County Sheriff's Office in September 2007. Anna was a 14-year-old eighth-grader when the alleged incidents occurred.
