Durant (13-2) scored a touchdown and then failed on a 2-point conversion attempt in its overtime possession, setting up Duckworth's tying score. His sweep run to the right side featured two broken tackles as he rumbled into the end zone. The 200-pound junior quarterback then booted the extra point to seal Mount Olive's second football championship.
Duckworth also scored on a 53-yard run and returned a kickoff 88 yards for another touchdown.
The win capped a wild year for the Pirates (10-5), who won 10 of their last 11 games after an 0-4 start. The Pirates stormed back from a 20-7 first-half deficit.
