CORINTH – The Corinth school board on Tuesday awarded a contract to Worsham Brothers Inc. of Corinth to renovate Corinth Junior High School, with a low bid of $940,000 on the project.

Plans call for renovation of the 1954-built west wing of the historic landmark building to accommodate fifth and sixth grades beginning in the 2010-2011 school year.

Corinth is building a new elementary school to open in the fall of 2010 that will include grades K-4 and eliminate West Corinth and East Corinth elementary schools. Students now served at South Corinth Elementary School will attend Corinth Junior High.

A total of eight bids were received with the highest being $1,299,000.

Work could begin later this month, but no later than January, with completion expected by May 2010, said Superintendent Lee Childress.
