The committee to find Tupelo High School’s next football coach met for the first time Thursday night.

The committee of eight community members plus Principal Mac Curlee and Athletic Director Danny Porter will seek the replacement for Eric Collins, who resigned as coach early this month.

“We have a good cross-representation of members of our community as well as the school district,” Curlee said Thursday night after the meeting. “We just met and established some of our ground rules. Tonight was our first step as far as naming the next football coach at Tupelo High School.”

Curlee, who also announced his retirement Thursday, said he’ll be involved with the search for the next head football coach until his last day with the district, Dec. 31, unless a new coach is named before that.

Curlee does NOT need a say in this......Since he has been here he was responsible for Johnny Hill (only here to promote his son Stan for a good college), Phil Ferguson (terrible coach) and Eric Collins (led us to playoffs, but not deep plus ending controversy)

Curless wasnt around for the successful Tupelo years...he doesnt understand what Tupelo football is supposed to be.
