Portland Trail Blazers forward Travis Outlaw, the former first-round pick from Starkville, could miss up to eight weeks with a broken bone in his left foot.

Outlaw suffered the injury just 20 seconds after entering Saturday night’s game at Charlotte. According to the Oregonian newspaper, Outlaw had been complaining of pain in his foot since last Tuesday’s game in Memphis.

Outlaw, a key reserve for most of his career in Portland, was third on the team in scoring (10.9) before the injury.

“I just feel so bad,” Portland coach Nate McMillan told reporters. “He was doing some good things, and all of the sudden this happens. ... It’s just an unfortunate situation.”

Said Outlaw: “I love playing the game, and just the fact that I’m going to be out, it hurts.”
