MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police have arrested two men for what began as vandalism and ended in a fight with officers.

A news release from the department said plain clothes officers watched two men in front of the Gay and Lesbian Community Center on Wednesday as one of them set fire to the rope on a flag pole.

When the officers intervened, the department said the men began fighting with them and one tried to disarm an officer.

The suspects fled, but responding officers found one of them a short time later. He was identified as 23-year-old Ross Burton.

Police arrested the second suspect Thursday. He is Wesley Huggins.

Burton is charged with assault and vandalism. Huggins is charged with vandalism, assault and setting fire to personal property.
