West Nile virus death toll in Miss. rises to 5

JACKSON — The Mississippi Department of Health has reported another death from the West Nile virus in Mississippi.

A Rankin County resident is the fifth person to die from the virus.

According to the Department of Health, there have been 53 human cases of the virus in several Mississippi counties so far this year.

In 2008, there were 65 confirmed cases of the mosquito-borne illness in the state with three deaths.
