University of Mississippi Chancellor Dan Jones says one of his school's fight songs, "From Dixie With Love," will be eliminated if fans continue to chant "the South will rise again" after football games.

Jones says the university's head coaches and numerous alumni have supported attempts to stop fans from uttering the phrase, which is considered racially offensive to some.

Last month, Jones asked the band to modify the tune to discourage the chant, but he says that didn't solve the problem.

He says fan reaction during Saturday's game against Northern Arizona will decide the fate of the song.

Mabe they should just get rid of Mr Jones, after all we still live in Dixie, and a great many people voted to keep the Great Mississippi Flag. Go Rebels, "the South shall rise again". And I dont mean that to be raceist, now get over it.

I am sick of hearing the "Nay Sayers" complain about Ole Miss. They are the ones who keep bringing up the past and the history of the Old South. No matter where you live or what college you hail from, there will always be a group of people whose sole purpose in life is to stir up trouble and cause confusion. I would think our esteemed Chancellor could accentuate the positive things about The University of Mississippi rather than engage in negative press.....

after they yell "the south will rise again", do the old miss fans start playing their banjos and tell their cousin next to them "hey you know you got a purdy mouth"?

I agree with the Chancellor, however, I would go a step further. The athletics department should, once and for all, rid itself of the old south image which has plagued the University since the advent of the African American football player in the Southeastern Conference. This would include the retiring of "Dixie" and developing a new mascot unrelated to the Civil War. The word "Rebels" is not a problem inasmuch it means different things to different people. The new mascot would relate to a "Rebel" not connected to the old south.

This is no threat to anyone. The south isn't going to rise again and try to separate from the rest of the United States. Relax folks. Try putting your energy into getting rid of the more obvious racial and social problems out there, this is not a big deal.

Lighten up......I think Dr. Jones is making a

way bigger deal than this deserves. A more

important thing to focus on would be getting

enough wins to go to a bowl.....
