Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack declared part of Mississippi a major disaster area Oct. 20 because of floods from April through June. Because Washington County is adjacent to the disaster area, growers there may be eligible for help.
The agency's county executive director, Robin Richardson, says she's been with the agency since 1987 and this is the worst year she's seen.
Richardson said some farmers were able to harvest some cotton and soybeans, but many had great losses.
