UPDATE: Northeast Miss. jobless rate falls

According to estimates by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security and then compiled by the Daily Journal, the unemployment rate for the 16 counties of Northeast Mississippi was 10.3 percent in September.

A month earlier, the jobless rate was 11.3 percent. It’s the second straight drop after the rate hit 12.4 percent in July, the highest of the year for the region.

September’s 10.3 percent rate, if it holds, would be the lowest unemployment rate for Northeast Mississippi this year. MDES revises its figures, and rates sometimes change.
