- Mooreville: Head coach Kevin Austin said his team needs to improve its tackling, especially when the Troopers’ defense will be trying to stop speedy RB Jamerson Love and the Bulldogs’ big, physical receivers. ... Austin added that his team needs to learn how to play in all kinds of conditions, citing the team’s struggles in the fourth quarter last week against Winona, when the Troopers’ receivers dropped several pass in the wet, rainy conditions. ... RB Gary Johnson has rushed for around 800 yards and 9 TDs. Says his coach, “He’s taken the role of our go-to man on offense.”
- Aberdeen: Austin calls the Bulldogs “the most athletically gifted team I’ve seen. They’re strong at every position. They got speed out on the edge. They got a great running back in Love. New Albany head coach Ron Price said the New Albany field “has held up pretty good” despite all the rainfall, but it could use another day without rain.

RB Joe Robbins has 103 carries for 496 yards and 6 TDs. ... WR Jeremy Berry has 27 catches for 344 yards and 2 TDs.

Tishomingo County head coach Steve Carter says Pontotoc has good skill people on both sides of the ball. “I don’t think their (offensive) linemen are as strong as in the past,” Carter said. ... Amory head coach Pat Byrd says the Warriors are not that big defensively, but can run pretty well. ... Warriors defensive coordinator Ben Ashley says NG Kelsey Traylor (49 tackles, 3 sacks) is “the one who makes us go. He wreaks a lot of havoc. He’s very active and draws a lot of double teams.” Traylor stands 5-7, 210 pounds, but “can pick up a house. He’s pretty strong and very quick,” says Ashley. ... Because as Byrd says, “He’s the straw that stirs the drink, and makes things go for them.” ... Tishomingo County head coach Steve Carter says you need to shut down the Pontotoc passing game in order to win, and to do that, you need exceptional corners that can really cover and linebackers with a lot of speed. ... DL Chris Ivy has a team-high 7 sacks. ... Jake Scott leads the team in INTS with 2. ... LB Jerome Owens leads the team with 87 tackles (75 solo).
Okolona (5-2) at Vardaman (4-2)

n This week: Tupelo is coming off a disappointing 19-17 division home loss to Southaven on Monday night. South Panola crushed Columbus last week, 53-7. The Tigers have beaten their 1-6A opponents by a combined score of 140-26 in three games.
- Recent history: South Panola has won four straight the last three seasons against the Golden Wave, including last year’s thrilling 14-13 victory. The teams played twice in 2007 with the Tigers winning 22-9 in the regular season and 28-21 in the state playoffs.

Jones, who missed three games with hip and ankle injuries, played 26 snaps Monday. He recorded three tackles and two QB hurries.
