Greer, who owns or co-owns numerous businesses in the area, said late Wednesday he was shocked to learn his Highway 178 building had been raided last spring by the FBI and reportedly was used to store untaxed tobacco products.
Krisi Allen, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney, said the office cannot comment on investigations, but said, "Greer just rented the property."
Greer told the Daily Journal late Wednesday he had no idea anything illegal could be going on at the warehouse.
Wednesday morning, State Auditor Stacey Pickering hosted a news conference there to show off nearly 1 million cartons of cigarettes and small cigars he said were part of a black market ring to avoid paying state and federal taxes.
He also announced an Oct. 27 auction for the products, with proceeds to go into the state treasury and to other agencies involved with the investigation.
