Holliday told the Picayune Item that residents are "fed up with professional politicians." But the 65-year-old says he knows he'll have to generate name recognition to win the Republican nomination in 2011. He's in the process of building a Web site explaining his platform.
Holliday rose to rank of brigadier general during his 38-year career in the Mississippi National Guard. He also describes himself as a businessman who's concerned about the struggle of Mississippians to earn a living.
Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant and coast businessman Dave Dennis have said they'll also seek the GOP nomination. Clarksdale business Bill Luckett says he'll run as a Democrat.
