Wave’s Max Holman wins Jesse Owens title

Tupelo High’s Max Holman won the Gold Division title in Saturday’s annual Jesse Owens Cross Country Invitational in Oakville, Ala.

Holman covered the 5K course in 15 minutes, 40.23 seconds in the field of 313 runners.

Tupelo’s boys team finished sixth overall in the 27-team field. Other top finishers for the Golden Wave were Harrison Campeau (28), Nolan Palladino (52), Andrew White (62) and Jeff Wilson (66).

Tupelo’s Lady Wave won the Silver Division team title, edging area rival Pontotoc by 33 points.

For the Wave, Katherine Steinman placed second overall in 19:40.92. Oxford’s Cori Green was 10th while Pontotoc’s White Ray and Katy McAuley finished 13th and 14th overall.

Other top area finishers were Tupelo’s Haley Page (15), Madison Nash (16), Brianna Weatherford (18) and Kacie Harris (21), Pontotoc’s Robin Shumaker (19), Emily Holcomb (29) and Ashlee Grisham (31).
