A Smithville woman is dead following a one-car accident in Itawamba County early Wednesday morning.

Sherry Faye Wouldridge, 33, was pronounced dead on the scene by officials from the Itawamba County coroner’s office after the vehicle in which she was traveling left the road and hit a large pine tree.

Cindy Wheeler, who was driving the vehicle, a Chevrolet Cavalier, was transported by ambulance to the North Mississippi Medical Center. Her condition is unknown at this time. Both women had to be cut from the vehicle using Jaws of Life.

According to Itawamba County deputy coroner Alan Popetz, Wheeler apparently lost control of the vehicle while traveling south on Highway 25, about 10 miles north of Fulton at approximately 5 a.m., leaving the road and hitting the tree.

Neither she nor Wouldridge was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
