Patrice Guilfoyle, a spokeswoman for the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, said Zacharias was in good condition, meaning he was stable and conscious. Citing patient privacy, Guilfoyle said UMC could not reveal other details about his condition.
Roy Ruby, a former interim president at MSU, told the Starkville Rotary Club on Monday that Zacharias had fallen and hit his head. Zacharias has multiple sclerosis for more than a decade.
Zacharias was MSU president from 1985-97. When he retired, he was the second longest-serving leader of the land-grant university that was founded in Starkville in 1878.
