JACKSON — U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker told 18 University of Mississippi Medical School students the main reason he's opposed to President Obama's proposed health care overhaul is cost.

Wicker said the proposal would "bankrupt" states as they expanded Medicaid programs to cover the uninsured. He also said the federal government would go into more debt trying to extend health care coverage to the nearly 50 million Americans who lack it.

Wicker said he would host townhall meetings on the issue in Mississippi, but he hadn't set any dates.

"Anything that would better the lives of the common people." Do you mean helping "the common people" by spending more of my money, or do you mean helping "the common people" by strapping my kids with higher taxes and huge debt?

Did you expect him to say anything OTHER than that? Republican's believe that there is PLENTY of money to invade AND occupy a foreign country, while searching for weapons that do not exist. But there is NO money to help the poor and working class people in the U.S.A.

They have been against Social Security,Medicare,Medicaid, and minimum wage.Anything that would better the lives of the common people. This was true during the great depression, and it is still true today. The goal of the republican party is to please big business, and rich people.
