Ole Miss signee Darius “Tig” Barksdale was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol early Thursday morning, Batesville police have confirmed.

A former South Panola star, Barksdale is awaiting NCAA certification before being allowed to compete for the Rebels, who sign in with coach Houston Nutt today and Sunday and begin practice on Monday.

Barksdale was also cited for driving without a license.

It is believed that Barksdale has achieved the necessary academic requirements. He is expected to compete for a starting position at strong safety.

Last week Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt removed signee Jamar Hornsby from the team. Hornsby, who was also expected to compete at strong safety, was indicted on felony assault.
