SALTILLO - Traffic on U.S. 45 in Saltillo will be restricted to one lane in each direction Thursday morning as law enforcement officials try to make travel safer for the first day back at school.

Saltillo Assistant Police Chief Scotty Clark said the lanes will be closed between the Euclatubba exit on the north to the Saltillo exit on the south. It will happen between 6:30 a.m. and 9 a.m.

The city's primary school and high school are located off of U.S. 45.

"People can expect delays," Clark said. "We hate for the inconvenience, but it is safer for the people."

Clark said police could repeat the procedure Friday morning but called it unlikely.

Lee County schools start tomorrow, followed by Tupelo next week. For everyone's sake, please slow down when entering a school zone. The precious few seconds it takes to slow down will add very little time to your commute and could mean the difference between life and death....yours or someone elses. Leave a few minutes earlier, so we can all arrive alive! Let's keep it up whenever school is in session.

God bless!
