Childers lauds health care accord

U.S. Rep. Travis Childers of Booneville, a member of the “Blue Dogs,” said the agreement to push the vote back to September was a win for the conservative Democratic coalition.

Childers said in a prepared statement that health care reform is “too important to do in a hurry. It is more important that we get health care reform right than get it fast.”

The agreement moves the full House vote to September, even though President Barack Obama had hoped for passage of a bill by August.

“This slow-down marks a victory for Blue Dogs, who have stood firm in their commitment to health care reform that makes sense over reform that meets a self-imposed deadline,” Childers said.

“In the grand scheme of things, whether we pass a health care bill in the House in August or early this fall is a minor detail.”

Would anyone like to comment on universal health care with public options?

It's safe to comment right now due to the FEW antiprogressive knowitalls and their Arkansas cousins will not be awake for another 6-8 hours. Those types with the spongebob mentality have not been away from their playstations very long and have probably just laid down for a nap til they are awaken from fast food drive-thru withdrawal pains.

Their WalMart employee group coverage must be somewhat threatened by Obamacare. Good luck Patriot!

You anti-progressives do know that you are already defeated don't you?....seriously?

Aside from your whining AND crying the fact still remains that Obamacare is the right choice and you know it.

Is it just a North Mississippi snuff dippin mentality thing?

Relativeofknowitall,Where did you get the idea that we have the greatest health care in the world? The last ranking that I saw published, was that the U.S. is ranked at #17.

Obama has already stated that he is against offering free health care to illegal immigrant's.He stated the only thing he would offer is free immunization shots to their children,so that they would not spread any disease to the American public. It's pretty hard for me to argue against that idea.

I did not mean to set off such a fire storm of comments. It's apparent that some of the comments on this board do not represent the majority of those in the district. My guess would be that some of the comments are made from people who are not even in Mississippi. The fact is that this is a very conservative district that does not support socialism. Look at the polls, not even a majority of Americans support this health plan.

As for here in Mississippi, look at the fact: people in the first district voted for "conservative" Travis Childers, including myself. They did NOT vote for Obama and his takeover of the health care system.

As I said earlier, I support a plan that will help those in need get insurance coverage, but not a "government run" plan. Medicare is a great example of how efficiently, or should I say, inefficiently that would work.

I am in favor of helping people who pay into the system. IF you pay into it, you desreve some help. Their are ways to do this without changing the quality of care. And killing senior citizens. I do not have a problem helping people who have lost their jobs. We already have programs in place for them and they should sign up for it. When the health care changes, you will not be able to get the health care that you have now. Why do you think that Congress is not going into this plan. They know that they will have to suffer like the rest of us, and they are not going to do it. They are going to have the best while the rest of us work and give our money to them.

Look, some of you apparently haven't traveled outside of N.E. MS.....Look at these same systems in other countries...They have failed.......Why would you expect anything less here....Albert Einstein said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.”

OxfordCaesar, you obviously are not very well informed....We already have a system for folks who are less fortunate....It's called Medicaid.....We have a program for uninsured children as well....It's called "CHIPS".....We have a program for seniors, it's called Medicare...Enough is enough....I shouldn't have to pay for your healthcare via higher taxes because you don't want to work or can't get a job....Grow up Peter Pan....

What about it knowitall? Any of your British national pals secret agents or are you personal friends with Tony Blair?

Thought someone had already put you to bed?

I agreed with romanrebel's earlier statement about Mississippians that have lost their jobs and now need the rest of us to help the thru this recession even if it's universal health care. You have a minority opinion 'son'.

Look at California, they love their neighbors so much they are broke. They are trying to support two contries. You can not do that have any money for important things like education and roads. As you friend Obama says, they are infastructure. They are not social programs. You are misquoting your messiah. If Mr. Childers was a Christian man, he would not be a congressman in Washington. I am palgerizing a minute, but I am quoting someone from a book. "I have rather deal with a hit man than a politician. At least you know what the hit man is going to do to you" You can not be a Christian and support the democratic party. The Bible speaks out on homosexuals and abortion. When you support the democrats, you are truly not supporting God's word. So don't tell me about helping my neighbor when you want to marry him or kill you child. California has tried this and look at them now. We are on the same path. We are unable to learn from the mistakes of others. According to Travis Childers commercials, he was going to shake up congress. Well he needs to start shaking and put his Mother in the medicare program and let him and Obama decide what health care she gets.

Not sure who you are "relative" but your comments are on target.....However, be careful trying to argue with some of these friends of Travis as they obviously have the same agenda.....I think they probably work for him....They don't like facts and data either....They can't handle the truth....

BTW, RomanReb, your comments are so very intelligent and insightful....Tell you what, when can arm yourself enough to debate me above a 5th grade level and can make educated comments, we'll debate....Until then, wipe the drool from your mouth, get your bicycle with the basket and flower on the front of it, and go home....Momma's calling you son....You will be glad to know that school starts back soon....You need all you can get....

Oh? so the cousin of knowitall enjoys social programs as well huh?

Public roads and public schools are social programs. Do you enjoy the postal service? yet another social program. Ever thought of delivering an envelope to your cousin in Arkansas for less that fifty cents? didnt think so.

It is my belief that Rep. Travis Childers is a friend to Obama, Mississipians, immigrants or any person that he may come in contact with. He's a conservative with Christian values!

This ole mindset of division and 'looking out for me and mine' mentality runs rampant these days. Whatever happened to love thy neighbor? wow

I am a middle class tax payer that does not mind paying taxes. I think it is my duty as an American citizen. But, we pay to much and get very little back. My taxes should be going for roads and schools, and not some ones idea of what health care should be. We have the greatest system of health care in the world and we want to mess it up. Any time the government gets into anything, it is screwed up. Amy one if my family that gets anything out of the systemm they have worked and paid in the system. They derserve what they get because they worked and paid for it. Unlike the illegal immigrants this plan is going to cover. So lets take a look at this. If I had crosed the border illegally, I get all the health care, food stamps, and free housing. If I am an American citizen, I have to work and give what I make to the government to provide health care for illegals that hate this country and want to blow it up. Have we lost our minds as a country. I have no problem with people coming to this country, but they need to pay taxes just like I do. The United states spends 30 billion a year on health care on border hospitals. Those are the people we need to restrict health care on. Not the senior citizens, that have paid into the system that Obama and his friend Travis Childers decided if they live or die. That decision belongs to GOD and not some politicians who think they are GOD.

Mississippipatriot or should I say "expatriot" you are simply not a very informed person....Actually, I feel very sorry for someone of your mental aptitude....You obviously worked or are working on the Childers team...Then again, you're probably not working at all and therefore are asking for a handout....Not knowing the facts and the issues is exactly what is wrong with this society and our country today.......

There is no way this bill will lower healthcare....That is a fallacy.......As far as better quality, PLEASE.......Again, ask any Canadian or British national.....Obviously, you haven't ever been too far from home so you probably don't know any.......As far as beauacracy goes, do you think the government system will be free of political red tape? I hope you like standing in line because if you think the system we have now has wait times at the physician's office or clinic, you haven't seen nothing yet...BTW, as far as social security goes, well I paid into that....If I only could somehow recover the amount of money I paid in, I'd be far and away better off...That's my money...I paid it.....

BTW, since you don't believe me, listen to the following clip. This person is educated and has read the entire 1018 page bill...

C'mon mrknowitall!

Those garbage statistics and outlandish claims are outrageous. You sound just like a family values C-Street hypo that uses fear of the people to further an agenda....just look at the BS you tried to sell Mr T! ha ha!

Health care reform with public options is the morally correct, decent and most conservative choice AND WILL pass. Here's a lil advice to ya heh heh....."get over it"! :-)

Builderpro hit the nail on the head in regards to what this conservative district wants AND needs. Lower health care costs and lower insurance premiums to policy holders, better quality healthcare free from insurance company beauracrats denying claims and helping our neighbor or brother in need with healthcare reflect CONSERVATIVE values and if you cant relate....you ARE NOT a conservative but a greedy, stingy and self loving liberal. knownothingatall's blah blah blah shows just how out of touch he really is with the majority of hard working people in this district.

As builderpro stated...if you're against socialized programs be sure and NOT to benefit from medicare or SOCIAL security. If you have parents or grandparents benefiting from either be sure and have them refrain from benefits and YOU pick up the tab....sure wouldnt want to plague you or your family with any handouts or entitlements.

You folks that "think" you want socialized medicine have never worked with or around British or Canadian nationals...I have worked with both and have been told by both that the U.S. private healthcare system is far and away the better of the systems.....If you don't believe me, let's look at the facts (Canadians with cancer die at a rate of 17% higher than Americans).....I guess that is just coincidence, huh? I don't think so. As for the comments made by "Mr. T", well if you have socialized medicine you might not have gotten the hip replacement to begin with depending on your age.....The actuaires will look at the cost of the procedure versus your age and the average life expectancies.....For example, if you happen to be a 70 year old man and needed a knee replacement and the average life expectancy for a male is 72 years old, they would not spend that much money because the statistics show that you're probably only going to live 2 more years on average.....That's how the system works...It's simply rogue statistics.....I for one do not want to be a statistic....As for "buildersprochoice", well let me tell you this district is far and away conservative....If you took a vote today in this district, the vote for National Healthcare would lose....If Childers votes for this, he's a sell out to the big wigs of his party.....PERIOD....I for one do not want a handout or entitlement.....I work and work hard for what I have and am proud to say I do...BTW, to show you how far to the left the democrats have gone over the last 40 years, think about this: JFK said in his inaugural speech in 1960 "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country".......Now, fast forward to today and it would sound like this: "Ask not what you can do for your country, but what your country can do for you".......SAD!!!
