The 7-year-old site now features links to all City Council agendas and minutes since the beginning of the year. With the click of a button, anyone can view the information in an online PDF document.
It’s a small start to what Reed hopes will become a more user-friendly site with increasingly current data.
“I think we can just make more information available on it,” Reed told the Daily Journal during his campaign. “One of the things I’m interested in doing is having a periodical report. I’ve looked at other Web sites and communications from other cities, and there are a lot of opportunities to be more proactive and feature some things that are going on, like projects and other positive things.”
The site also soon will feature a clip of Reed’s twice-monthly reports, which are filmed by Comcast Cable.
Launched in 2002, www.ci.tupelo.ms.us has a home page with links to Tupelo’s attractions, as well to a city biography and history. It also connects visitors to each municipal department, where they can find basic data about the mayor and City Council, utility costs, millage rates, permit fees, property taxes, municipal ordinances, zoning maps, city phone numbers and more.
Lacking, though, were daily updates about city activities, and that’s where Reed said he’ll focus on improvement throughout his four-year term.
