The U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has been asked to consider whether indicted Stanford Financial Group financier Sir R. Allen Stanford should be on house arrest as he awaits trial on a $7 billion Ponzi scheme.

Court documents filed Friday show his attorney:

• Asked for Stanford's transfer from a Conroe, Texas, jail to the downtown Houston detention center.

• Sent court documents to the 5th Circuit for immediate consideration.

Stanford, who pleaded not guilty, insists he should not be denied bail on the 21-count indictment. He's facing a maximum 375 years in prison, if convicted on all the charges.

Last week, a U.S. District judge in Texas turned down his motion to reconsider bail.

If Stanford can't get bail, his attorney has asked that the federal judge move him from Conroe to the downtown Houston detention center.
