Lula Miller

WEST POINT – Lula Davidson Miller, 95, died, Friday, June 26, 2009, in the West Point Community Living Center in West Point. She was born Feb. 5, 1914, in Monroe County to the late Larisie Ophelia Tubb and Benjamin Absolon Davidson. She was a homemaker.

Services were held at 10 a. m. Sunday from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with the Bro. Zane Parker and Bro. Stephen Ford officiating. Burial followed in Howell Cemetery in Monroe County. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Bramlett (Stanley) of West Point; one son, Jimmy LeDrew Miller (Robbie) of Aberdeen; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Laten Miller; and daughter, Mattie Laverne Jones.

Pallbearers were Roger Brand, Steven Brand, Dale Brand, Cary Wilson, Doyle Edward Brooks Jr. and Lonnie Bramlett.

Honorary pallbearers were Mrs. Bret Miller, Dr. John Cox, Brother Zane Parker and the staff of West Point Community Living Center.

HOUSTON – Jimmy Franklin Rhea died Saturday, June 27, 2009. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Memorial Funeral Home of Houston.

Shelly Johnson

BALDWYN – Shelly Deloris Morris Johnson, 51, died June 27, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after an extended illness. She was born Jan. 6, 1958, to Jack Morris and Ordean Morris Arnold. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Frankstown and she was a lifelong resident of Baldwyn. She was a graduate of Wheeler High School. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends and especially her grandchildren. She was loved and will be missed very much.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Dwight Scott and Bro. William Copeland officiating. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery.

Survivors include her mother, Ordean Morris Arnold of Baldwyn; son, Daniel Johnson of Louisiana; daughters, Jodye Johnson of Baldwyn and Georgye Davis (Eric) of Booneville; grandchildren, Brett and Brice Johnson of Alabama, Josie Davis of Booneville, and Samuel Johnson of Baldwyn; sisters, Shelia Carpenter (Mike) of Baldwyn, Jackie Green (Roy) and Kandye Escobedo (Roger), both of Dallas; brother, Mark Morris (Amy) of Baldwyn; a host of nieces and nephews; the father of her children, Mickey Johnson; and a special friend, Ronald Chism.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Morris; step-father, Richard Arnold; grandparents, C.A. and Bessie Morris and Orden and Vera Scott; and a daughter-in-law, Christy Johnson.

Pallbearers will be Eric Davis, Keith Carpenter, Bryan Morris, Chris Morris, Josh Stowers, Andrew Escobedo, Joseph Escobedo, Matt Green and Keleb Green.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brett and Brice Johnson, Josie Davis and Samuel Johnson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Wilma F. Black

DORSEY – Wilma Flanagin Black, 71, died Friday, June 26, 2009, at the Sanctuary Hospice House. She was born Nov. 4, 1937, to Yancie and Fannie Barnes. She was a member of the Dorsey Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, sang specials and loved working with the children in the nursery. She worked at Reed’s Manufacturing and retired from North Mississippi Regional Center.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Dorsey Baptist Church with Bro. Danny Rushing and Bro. Jerry Estes officiating. Burial was in the Dorsey Memorial Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton handled the arrangements.

Survivors include one son, Todd Flanagin (Doris); one daughter, Toni Taylor (Joe) of Tupelo; one grandchild, Dillion Flanagin of Hamilton, Ala.; and a special friend, Major Kirk of Iuka.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Boyd Flanagin and Will Black; two half sisters, Estelle Hallmark and Vera Barnes; and her parents.

Pallbearers will be Gene Loden, Larry Nelson, Jackie Nichols and Larry Armstrong.

Honorary Pallbearers will be deacons of Dorsey Baptist Church, Young at

Heart and Ladies Breakfast Club.

Melina Hyde

FULTON – Melina Marie Hyde, 3 month old infant, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at her residence. She was born March 20, 2009, in Tupelo. She was a happy and well loved baby who enjoyed being outdoors.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Jerry Estes officiating. Burial will be in the Dorsey Memorial Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her mother, Angela Hyde; one sister, Sydney Hyde; grandparents, Donald and Kathleen Hyde, all of Fulton; great-grandmother, Monica Russell of Chicago, Ill.; aunt, Stacy Hyde; two cousins, Brennen and Nahvella Hyde, all of Hamilton, Ala.; and a host of great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Billy and Millie Hyde and Sydney Russell; and a great-uncle, Greg "Pug" Ison Sr.

Pallbearers will be Greg Ison Jr. and Herbert Hurd.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

James R. Carver

WATER VALLEY – James Robert Carver, 75, died Friday, June 26, 2009, at Trinity Missions Health and Rehab in Holly Springs.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Waterford. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time today.

Wayne Warren

HURRICANE – Wayne Warren, 76, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was a member and longtime deacon, Sunday School teacher and treasurer of Hurricane Baptist Church and former Vice President of Basic Wood Products in Pontotoc. He was founder and owner of W.W. Wood Products of Hurricane and he was a United States Army veteran.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hurricane Baptist Church with Bro. Philip Brock and Bro. Doug Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Sand Springs Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Jimmie S. Warren of Hurricane; one daughter, Jill Frohn (Eric) of New Albany; one son, Phil Warren (Stephenie) of Hurricane; and five grandchildren, Olivia Wells, Mary-Colston Warren, Anna Grace Warren, Will Frohn and Elizabeth Frohn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie O. Warren and Pearl Hudson Warren of Hurricane; two brothers, Charles M. Warren (Margie) and James “Jink” Warren, both of Hurricane; and one sister, Mildred W. Wilbanks of Tupelo.

Pallbearers will be Church Warren, Chris Russell, Chad Russell, Charles Short, Cason Short, Jeff Warren, Johnny Fears and Jimmy Hardin.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Hurricane Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the funeral home today and will continue one hour prior to service time.

Bertie Blanton

HOUSTON – Bertie Thrasher Blanton, 90, died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Floy Dyer Manor in Houston. She was born Aug. 25, 1918, in Chickasaw County to John Everett Thrasher and Kate Lavender Thrasher. She was a homemaker, a retired seamstress for Franklin Mfg. Co. and a member of Arbor Grove Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Arbor Grove Baptist Church in Houston with Rev. Mike Mathena officiating. Burial will follow in the Arbor Grove Cemetery. Houston Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include a host of nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Lois Corrine Thrasher of Dallas, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie D. Blanton on May 22, 1988; four brothers, John Elmer Thrasher, Nelson Thrasher, Earl Thrasher and Evans Thrasher; five sisters, Grace Henderson, Loudean Fondren, Emma Thrasher, Gladys Thrasher and an infant girl.

Visitation will begin one hour prior to service time at the church.

ASHLAND – James Franklin Glover, 63, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at the Briarcrest Extended Care Home in Ashland.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hopewell #2 M.B. Church of Hudsonville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. J.F. Brittenum & Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and will continue from 10 to 10:55 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

BELMONT – John W. Timbs, 77, died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at his residence. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Deaton Funeral Home of Belmont.

Juanita Deese

IUKA – Juanita Elizabeth Johnston Deese, 88, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Carrington House Assisted Living in Iuka. She was a member of Gulfcrest Baptist Church of Gulfcrest, Ala., and she was a homemaker. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed cooking and working with her flowers.

Services were held at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mark Maybrey officiating. Burial was in the Balhalla Memorial Garden in Eight Mile, Ala. Magnolia Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Survivors include her daughter, Theresa Jane Deese Rainey (Billy) of Iuka; sons, W.J. Deese (Linda) of Hattiesburg and Nolan Lee Deese (Gail) of Jay, Fla.; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Deese of Wilmer, Ala.; nine grandchildren, Dawn Dexter Laster (Brad), William Matthew Dexter, Havis Ray Deese Jr., Christopher Earl Deese, Martha Ann Slay, Tracey Leigh Catladge, Terry Deese, Tonya Newby and David Deese; two step-grandchildren, Ferrin Rainey Patterson and Carlynn Reiney Kerley; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Ray Deese; son, Havis Ray Deese Sr.; grandson, Daniel Deese; her father, Jeff Johnston; and mother, Lula Mae Turner Johnston.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation; or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Geniver Johnson

NEW ALBANY – Geniver Johnson, 86, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Union County Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Albany. She was a native of Union County and a member of Beaver Dam M.B. Church where she served on the Mothers Board. She loved yard work and working with flowers. She was the widow of Tom Johnson and was known to many as “Momma Gem”.

Services will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Beaver Dam M.B. Church with Rev Lawrence McKenzie delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in Beaver Dam Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Annie Edwards of New Albany; one son, David “Bubba” Carter of Byhalia; one sister, Lela Johnson of New Albany; one brother, Clifton Edward of Alabaster, Ala.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

I knew Robert briefly and he was a very nice young man I have known his wife all of my life and they are very good people I just wanted to say to Roberts wife I know that you loved your husband and you took very good care of him may god bless you and you are in my families prayers.
